Siidde

Siidde

Siidde [ˈɕiə̯ɖə] is a member of the Kono language, sibling to Nyirvón and as such distantly related to Asiul. It is spoken by the inhabitants of the Cloud Palace’s slums, the Underground. Years of segregation have split their language off Nyirvón, and their relative isolation and close interaction with the Tinjaavilh Pwmikit, speakers of Quriil, have mutated the language quite a bit. The Dakiuzuiam in the Upper Cloud Palace usually regard Siidde as a dialect of Nyirvón at best, more often as the muddied pronunciation of ungrammatical Nyirvón by uneducated illiterates. Needless to say, Siidde is a proper language with a lot of interesting features distinguishing it from other Konoic languages due to the strong influence of Quriil.

Conlanging background

This language is still just a draft, a collection of ideas.

Phonology

Siidde’s phoneme inventory has been heavily influenced by Quriil, having introduced non-Konoic sounds such as retroflexes, uvulars and the lateral fricative into the language. Old Nyirvón’s long vowels have diphthongized in Siidde, and unstressed short vowels were reduced. The vowel harmony of the other Konoic languages has shifted towards a consonant harmony system instead.

Grammar

Siide’s morphology is more isolating than its agglutinative sibling Nyirvón, another influence from Quriil.
